Character Bootcamp

Character Bootcamp is in session! I’m having tons of fun teaching this course with Zoe Tucker and Lilla Rogers.

Each month, we give students an excerpt from an original Zoe Tucker children’s book. We call them “story starters” for students to then work from. Zoe gives students a character assignment during the first few weeks. Make Art That Sells students draw their characters, poses, and settings.

Here’s where I come in. At week three, I give a toy assignment based on four toy categories: plush, pretend play, vehicle for a playset, and an activity kit. I walk students through each category and show them sample products. I show what I love and talk about why kids do, too.

Feast your weary eyes on some of my top picks from our first two months. You’ll see tons of plush and pretend play toy concepts based on two stories Zoe wrote.
